iPhone 8 Timing and Renderings, Apple Acquires Beddit, iTunes Coming to Windows Store - MacRumors

We've been hearing lots of rumors about a potential delayed launch for the "iPhone 8" later this year, with Apple reportedly struggling to ramp up production. Reports are continuing to coalesce around a timeline that would include an introduction in the typical September timeframe and availability coming a bit later than usual, possibly into October. Even then, supplies are expected to be extremely tight as Apple continues ramping up production.

Rumors persist about Apple potentially putting a Touch ID sensor on the back of the iPhone 8, while the device is said to have an "enhanced" earpiece for improved stereo sound and better waterproofing. Meanwhile, we've seen yet another set of renderings supposedly based on the actual design specs for the iPhone 8.

Apple Acquires 'Beddit' iPhone-Connected Sleep Monitoring System
Sleep monitoring accessory firm Beddit this week revealed that it has been acquired by Apple, an interesting move considering Apple has yet to directly support much in the way of sleep tracking in its Health platform. Tim Cook Says 'Strong Demand' For 2016 MacBook Pro Helped Set New Mac Sales Record Last Quarter
Following up on our coverage of Apple's earnings release last week, we highlighted some of Tim Cook's comments citing "strong demand" for the new MacBook Pro that helped Apple set a new March quarter record for Mac sales at 4.2 million units. The new record came even as the MacBook Pro is the only Mac to have seen a recent update.

Beyond the Mac, Apple's stock has been riding a wave of optimism around the company's future including the "iPhone 8" release later this year. Apple's market capitalization has topped $800 billion, with at least one prominent analyst predicting it could hit $1 trillion within the next year.

Apple to Start Offering iTunes on the Windows Store
Microsoft has made a number of Apple-related announcements this week, led by news that Apple will be bringing iTunes to the Windows Store. The move will make it easier for Windows users to find the software, particularly with the upcoming Windows 10 S that will limit users to installing software only from the Windows Store.

In other Microsoft news, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will bring some new Continuity-like features for iOS and Android users, allowing them to pick up where they left off when switching between their PCs and their mobile devices. A universal clipboard will also allow users to copy and paste content between Windows and iOS devices. Finally, Microsoft has officially released Visual Studio for Mac, bringing the company's coding platform to the Mac.

Amazon Reveals $230 Touchscreen 'Echo Show' Launching in June
Amazon this week introduced the Echo Show, the latest addition to its hardware lineup featuring its Alexa voice assistant. The $230 Echo Show, launching in June, includes a 7-inch touchscreen that will allow users to watch content and make video calls. The debut comes amid rumors of Apple introducing its own smart speaker system as soon as next month at WWDC and just after Phil Schiller shared his belief that such speakers could benefit from having a screen. Windows 'Snake' Malware Ported to Mac, Imitates Adobe Flash Player Installer
Well-known Windows malware "Snake" has been ported to the Mac and is masquerading as an Adobe Flash Player installer. The malware does indeed install Flash, but it also installs a backdoor into your Mac that could allow malicious parties access to sensitive information.

Separately, the developers behind the popular video transcoding software Handbrake have announced that one of their download mirror servers was compromised earlier this month. Users who downloaded the software could potentially have installed a trojan that would allow malicious parties root access on infected systems.
