Alleged Molds Purport to Show Relative Sizes of Apple's 2017 iPhones
We're continuing to get better looks at the so-called "iPhone 8," and this week we saw some alleged casing molds that show a size comparison among the iPhone 8 and more traditional "iPhone 7s" and "iPhone 7s Plus" models. If accurate, the iPhone 8 would be slightly larger than the current iPhone 7 and its iPhone 7s successor.

Beyond the molds, we're also seeing dummy units and clones that are giving us a decent idea of what we might see in the fall when the iPhone 8 debuts. We've also seen an iPhone 8 case compared to the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. We're still waiting on actual part leaks, however, and once those start coming in we should have a better idea of how the new iPhone 8 will come together.

'iPhone 9' Rumored to Come in 5.28-Inch and 6.46-Inch Display Sizes in 2018
It sounds crazy considering we're still months away from the introduction of the iPhone 8, but we're already hearing our first rumors about next year's "iPhone 9." While we don't have a lot of confidence in this rumor yet, it's a tantalizing one claiming Apple is looking to introduce two sizes of OLED displays on next year's models, coming in at 5.28 and 6.46 inches. The sizes suggest we could see something similar to the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus device sizes but with larger full-front screens.

New Notebooks and 10.5" iPad Pro at WWDC, iPhone 8 and iPad mini Rumors, Apple Park - MacRumors

We've been expecting an updated MacBook for a while now, but it looks like we're going to be seeing even more than that at WWDC next month, with Apple reportedly also introducing an updated MacBook Pro and possibly a new MacBook Air.

All three updates are expected to be relatively minor speed-bumped versions of the current models, particularly in the case of the MacBook Pro which is only just over six months old.

There's no word on any desktop Mac updates at WWDC, although Apple has said it has an iMac update in the works for later this year (likely in the fall), while a completely redesigned Mac Pro isn't due until after 2017.

Ming-Chi Kuo Says Apple Likely to Unveil 10.5" iPad Pro and Touchscreen Siri Smart Speaker at WWDC
Relatively reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said there is a greater than 50 percent chance Apple will show off its Siri smart speaker at WWDC next month, and now he says Apple's much-rumored 10.5-inch iPad Pro has a greater than 70 percent chance of appearing at the event.

Rumors on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which is said to be roughly the same size as the current 9.7-inch model but with smaller bezels around the display, have been split on the timing for its introduction. Some rumors had suggested it could launch this spring, while others pointed toward a debut at WWDC or even in the fall, but it now looks like it could be coming soon.

iPhone 8 Predicted to Cost $999 For 128GB And $1,099 For 256GB, With No 32GB Model
iPhone 8 rumors are slowing down a bit in recent weeks, although this week saw one analyst report claiming Apple will likely offer only a 128 GB model at $999 and a 256 GB model at $1099, leaving the lower price points to more conservatively updated "iPhone 7s" models.

The pricing estimates are undoubtedly guesses, but it certainly seems like the design innovations and new technology rumored for the iPhone 8 could drive Apple's costs higher, and pricing is one way Apple can differentiate between the iPhone 8 and 7s models.

Apple Releases iOS 10.3.2 With Multiple Bug Fixes and Security Updates
After over a month of beta testing, Apple this week rolled out a series of operating system updates, led by iOS 10.3.2 and macOS 10.12.5. Apple also pushed out watchOS 3.2.2 and tvOS 10.2.1 to complete the set, with all four releases primarily focusing on bug fixes and security improvements.

Even with WWDC right around the corner where Apple will undoubtedly show off iOS 11, macOS 10.13, and more, the company is still moving ahead with new bug fix updates, as seen in a new round of betas including iOS 10.3.3 and macOS 10.12.6. Apple is unlikely to make any more significant feature updates, however, saving those for the major operating system updates previewed next month and released to the public in the fall.

Apple Rumored to Discontinue iPad Mini
The fate of the iPad mini has been up in the air for some time, with some reports suggesting it could get the "Pro" treatment seen on its larger 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch siblings, while others have suggested it could simply fade away as customers lean toward "Plus-sized" iPhones and larger-screened iPads. A new rumor comes down in the latter camp, claiming Apple will not be making any further updates to the iPad mini. The report's source is unclear, however, on whether the current iPad mini 4 will be discontinued entirely in the relatively near future or if Apple will continue to sell it for some time as a relatively low-cost option and for those who do prefer that size of tablet.

iPhone 8 Timing and Renderings, Apple Acquires Beddit, iTunes Coming to Windows Store - MacRumors

We've been hearing lots of rumors about a potential delayed launch for the "iPhone 8" later this year, with Apple reportedly struggling to ramp up production. Reports are continuing to coalesce around a timeline that would include an introduction in the typical September timeframe and availability coming a bit later than usual, possibly into October. Even then, supplies are expected to be extremely tight as Apple continues ramping up production.

Rumors persist about Apple potentially putting a Touch ID sensor on the back of the iPhone 8, while the device is said to have an "enhanced" earpiece for improved stereo sound and better waterproofing. Meanwhile, we've seen yet another set of renderings supposedly based on the actual design specs for the iPhone 8.

Tim Cook Says 'Strong Demand' For 2016 MacBook Pro Helped Set New Mac Sales Record Last Quarter
Following up on our coverage of Apple's earnings release last week, we highlighted some of Tim Cook's comments citing "strong demand" for the new MacBook Pro that helped Apple set a new March quarter record for Mac sales at 4.2 million units. The new record came even as the MacBook Pro is the only Mac to have seen a recent update.

Beyond the Mac, Apple's stock has been riding a wave of optimism around the company's future including the "iPhone 8" release later this year. Apple's market capitalization has topped $800 billion, with at least one prominent analyst predicting it could hit $1 trillion within the next year.

Apple to Start Offering iTunes on the Windows Store
Microsoft has made a number of Apple-related announcements this week, led by news that Apple will be bringing iTunes to the Windows Store. The move will make it easier for Windows users to find the software, particularly with the upcoming Windows 10 S that will limit users to installing software only from the Windows Store.

In other Microsoft news, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will bring some new Continuity-like features for iOS and Android users, allowing them to pick up where they left off when switching between their PCs and their mobile devices. A universal clipboard will also allow users to copy and paste content between Windows and iOS devices. Finally, Microsoft has officially released Visual Studio for Mac, bringing the company's coding platform to the Mac.

Windows 'Snake' Malware Ported to Mac, Imitates Adobe Flash Player Installer
Well-known Windows malware "Snake" has been ported to the Mac and is masquerading as an Adobe Flash Player installer. The malware does indeed install Flash, but it also installs a backdoor into your Mac that could allow malicious parties access to sensitive information.

Separately, the developers behind the popular video transcoding software Handbrake have announced that one of their download mirror servers was compromised earlier this month. Users who downloaded the software could potentially have installed a trojan that would allow malicious parties root access on infected systems.

Siri Smart Speaker Rumors, Major Apps Drop Apple Watch Support, Apple Earnings, 'Sheeple' - MacRumors

Roughly six months after the last rumors about Apple's Siri-based smart speaker intended to compete with the Amazon Echo and Google Home, a pair of reports this week are suggesting a debut could be closer than many thought. The first report last week came from Sonny Dickson, who said the device will be marketed as a Siri and AirPlay product with Beats technology. According to Dickson, the speaker is said to resemble the Mac Pro, with a "fat" cylindrical design and a concave top, but with mesh covering nearly the entire exterior.

Dickson's source said the device could be introduced as soon as WWDC next month, and a follow-up report from prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims there is indeed an "over 50% chance" of an introduction at WWDC, although a launch may not come until later in the year. Kuo says the device will have "excellent acoustics performance" with one woofer and seven tweeters and carry processing power roughly on par with the iPhone 6 or 6s. He expects Apple's speaker will be priced higher than the $179 Amazon Echo.

With the new developments and a potential introduction just a few weeks away, we've put together a roundup covering the rumored product to help readers stay on top of the latest news and rumors all in one place.

Several prominent iOS apps, including Google Maps, Amazon, and eBay, have recently dropped support for the Apple Watch, drawing significant attention to the lack of momentum for the device as an app platform. Both Google and eBay have said they intended to restore Apple Watch support in the future after they make some changes, while Amazon says it doesn't think its previous incarnation is the "right solution" for its customers "at this time." It's not clear, however, whether Amazon is working on a different approach for Apple Watch functionality.

Apple Reports 2Q 2017 Results: $11B Profit on $52.9B Revenue, 50.8M iPhones
Apple this week released its financial results for the second fiscal quarter of 2017, roughly corresponding to the January–March timeframe. The company's results were pretty much in line with expectations, although iPhone sales numbers were a bit on the low side. Tim Cook attributed the performance to a stronger than usual rumor cycle causing some customers to "pause" on iPhone purchases. Cook also noted that demand for the iPhone 7 Plus continues to be stronger than Apple had originally anticipated, with customers particularly enjoying the Portrait mode that takes advantage of the device's dual rear cameras.

From the lighter side of news this week, Merriam-Webster has added the word "sheeple" to the dictionary. New Apple Park Drone Video Shows Off Last Minute Construction as Opening Draws Near
Employees were supposed to start moving into the new Apple Park campus by the end of April, but there's still a fair amount of work to be done on parts of the campus, as seen in the latest drone footage of the massive ring-shaped headquarters building and associated facilities. Everything is starting to come together, however, with landscaping being installed in earnest and interior work undoubtedly continuing at a steady pace.

If you'd like an inside look at the new campus, Tim Cook is offering up an opportunity to have lunch with him there as part of his annual charity auction to support the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights. It'll likely only cost you a few hundred thousand dollars!
