New MacBook Pro Details, No More Apple Displays, iOS 10.2 Beta, AirPods Launching in January? - MacRumors

In the wake of last week's debut of the redesigned MacBook Pro, there has been a flood of discussion about the pros and cons of the new device, ranging from the innovative Touch Bar to the lack of ports to the pricing. While professional users in particular have expressed disappointment at some aspects of the new models, it hasn't stopped them from becoming Apple's best-selling pro notebook at this early stage.

Apple Says It's Out of the Standalone Display Business
Alongside the new MacBook Pro, Apple announced new 5K and 4K displays from LG specifically designed to work well with the new notebooks, but questions remained about whether Apple was still working on a rumored display of its own that could even include a graphics card to help lower-powered machines drive it. Apple appears to have put those rumors to rest, however, telling The Verge's Nilay Patel that the company is out of the standalone display business, so if you're interested in a high-resolution external display for your new MacBook Pro, the LG displays may be your best bet.

AirPods Might Not Launch Until January 2017
Less than 24 hours before its MacBook Pro media event last week, Apple announced that it was delaying the launch of its new AirPods wireless earphones. Announced at Apple's September iPhone 7 event, the AirPods had been planned to launch in late October, but Apple was unable to meet that goal. The company did not provide a new estimated launch date for the AirPods, but one report out of the company's Chinese supply chain suggests they might not launch until January

New MacBook Pros Said to Launch in 2017 With Price Cuts and Up to 32GB of RAM
The redesigned MacBook Pro isn't even fully launched yet, and we're already hearing rumors about the next update, with a report indicating updated models will arrive in the second half of 2017. The new models could come with price drops as the new technology starts to become cheaper to produce, while new Intel chips could allow for an increase in maximum RAM beyond the current 16 GB limit.

Separately, Apple has been said to be looking into using OLED displays on its notebook lineup, leveraging expertise gained with the Apple Watch and now the MacBook Pro's Touch Bar. The technology is also expected to make its way into the iPhone next year. There's no word yet on when OLED could come to Apple's notebooks.

Apple Drops Prices on 512GB and 1TB SSD Upgrades for Older Mac Lineup
The MacBook Pro was sadly the only Mac to see an update at last week's event, but there's a consolation prize for those looking into one of the other lineups: cheaper flash storage upgrade pricing. Across the board, 512 GB and 1 TB SSD upgrades are now up to several hundred dollars cheaper, so if you're looking for something other than a MacBook Pro, make sure you consider your options there and see if bumping up to more storage might be worthwhile.
