Apple began shipping the first batch of Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro orders late last week, with the
first deliveries taking place on Monday. We've seen the usual unboxings and
teardowns, as well as the
early round of press reviews that shared mixed reactions to the machines in general and the Touch Bar in particular, finding it anywhere between "useful" and a "gimmick."
While shipping estimates for new online orders remain at 4–5 weeks, small quantities of stock configurations are now
making their way into Apple's retail stores. For its part, Apple is
featuring Mac App Store apps that have already been updated to support the Touch Bar, while a
new ad positions the Touch Bar as a technological leap forward. If you're looking for an external display to go with your new MacBook Pro, make sure to check out our
overview of compatible USB-C monitors.
Other MacBook Pro tidbits we've learned in the past week include the use of
non-removable flash storage in the Touch Bar models, the reasons behind Apple's decision to use
AMD's Polaris-based graphics chips, and an apparent bug that has resulted in a security feature known as System Integrity Protection being
disabled on some of the new MacBook Pro units.
