iPhone 6 Shell and Display Shown Together, Lightning Cable with Reversible USB, OS X Yosemite Beta 6 - MacRumors

The clock is ticking as we head toward Apple's all-but-confirmed iPhone 6 media event on September 9, and the leaks are continuing. The latest photo set shows the front panel and rear shell of the iPhone 6 together for the first time, showing just how sleek the design is as the two parts fit together. We've also now seen the iPhone 6 display under a microscope with some new speculation on the device's resolution. Other iPhone 6 photo leaks from this week include closeups of the display assembly and other parts, as well as what looks to be a fully assembled logic board.

iPhone 6 batteries have also been in the news this week, including photos of a large battery reportedly for the 5.5-inch model and a smaller one for the 4.7-inch model. Finally, rumors from this week have pointed to sapphire displays perhaps being limited to high-end models, an NFC chip, and support for faster LTE-Advanced data networks.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Phil Schiller Take On 'Ice Bucket Challenge' to Promote Awareness for ALS
The "Ice Bucket Challenge" to raise awareness of and funding for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is currently all the rage on social media, and Apple executives are no exception. Marketing chief Phil Schiller was first to take the challenge, proceeding to tag CEO Tim Cook, who fulfilled the challenge last Thursday during Apple's bi-weekly beer bash festivities. Cook then challenged musician Michael Franti (who was providing entertainment for the event and took the challenge alongside Cook), Beats co-founder and new Apple employee Dr. Dre, and Disney CEO and Apple board member Bob Iger.

Apple Releases OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6
Apple this week seeded the sixth beta version of OS X Yosemite to developers, bringing a number of visual tweaks as we move closer to the public launch later this year. Unlike past releases, there was no corresponding iOS 8 beta for developers, although the company did seed a new iOS 8 beta to carrier partners for testing.

Apple Honors Robin Williams With iTunes Store Section Featuring More than 40 Movies, Comedy Routines
Following the death of actor and comedian Robin Williams last week, Apple executives including Tim Cook expressed their condolences while the company posted a dedicated remembrance page and an iTunes Store feature showcasing his work. Williams' performance in Dead Poets Society holds special significance for Apple, as his "Your Verse" speech in the film served as the inspiration for an ongoing series of iPad commercials.

Intel Preparing to Launch New Xeon Processors for Potential Mac Pro Upgrade
It feels like Apple's redesigned Mac Pro is still brand-new, but Intel is preparing to release new Xeon processors that could be used in an updated version of the professional machine. With AMD also having released updated graphics cards, new versions of Apple's custom FirePro cards may be possible as well. So, Mac Pro users can begin looking forward to a Mac Pro upgrade, although it is unlikely to appear until very late this year or early next year given the age of the current model and Intel's typical production ramp-up.
