We've been hearing for quite some time that Apple is working on a new low-cost notebook, and
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman this week
shared a few more details on the device. He suggests the new notebook will be a revamped MacBook Air that looks similar to the current version but with a Retina display at the same 13-inch size and slimmer bezels. We still don't know what else will change in the update or how Apple will differentiate the MacBook Air, MacBook and low-end MacBook Pro models once they all have Retina displays.
The other big news from this week's report is that there's a new Mac mini in the works. The updated Mac mini, its first upgrade in four years, will reportedly have some pro-focused features like new storage and processor options that will likely drive up the current starting price of $499.
The new Macs could launch at a separate October event following the iPhone debut in September. A
separate report claimed the new MacBook Air could arrive alongside the rumored updated iPad Pro (and presumably the new iPhones) in September, but it's starting to sound like there are enough announcements to break things up into two events.
