iPhone X Launch, iOS 11.1 Released, iMac Pro Demo, AirPower to Cost $199? - MacRumors

The big day is finally here. Within hours, the first customers will be getting their hands on the iPhone X as clocks roll over to Friday morning around the world. We had a brief chance to try one out ahead of time, so be sure to check out our hands-on video, and we'll have lots more coverage in the days to come.

Pre-orders for the iPhone X went live last Friday, and as expected, shipping estimates quickly ballooned to 5–6 weeks amid high demand and short supplies. Much of the rest of the past week has been focused on early impressions and reviews from those who were provided with advance access. Overall impressions are positive, although some of the changes like navigating without the iconic home button will take some getting used to.

Apple Releases iOS 11.1 With New Emoji, 3D Touch App Switcher, and More
Just ahead of the iPhone X launch, Apple this week released iOS 11.1 to the public, adding a number of new emoji, bringing back the 3D Touch app switching gesture, and more. A number of security issues including a serious one affecting the WPA2 Wi-Fi security standard were also addressed. In addition to iOS 11.1, corresponding macOS 10.13.1, watchOS 4.1 (with LTE Apple Music streaming and new Radio app), and tvOS 11.1 updates were also released.

iOS 11.2 Beta Fixes Calculator Bug Causing Incorrect Calculations when Numbers Are Rapidly Entered
Even before iOS 11.1 was released to the public, Apple this week seeded the first beta of iOS 11.2 to developers. Among the changes was a fix for a Calculator app issue that resulted in errors when entering numbers quickly. The issue had been present from the very first iOS 11 beta back in June, but increased attention last week pressed Apple to address it by removing the button animations that interfered with touch recognition.

Apple also released initial beta versions of macOS 10.13.2, watchOS 4.2, and tvOS 11.2 as it moves toward the next set of minor operating system updates.

Apple Demos iMac Pro at Final Cut Pro X Creative Summit
Apple last week assisted in hosting the FCPX Creative Summit in Cupertino for Final Cut Pro professionals, and the company set up an iMac Pro at the event to give attendees a glimpse at the powerful desktop set for release next month.

Starting at $4999, the iMac Pro shares the same overall design as the regular iMac, but comes in a special Space Gray finish and includes all-new internals to support up to an 18-core Intel Xeon processor, Radeon Pro Vega graphics, up to 4 GB of flash storage, and up to 128 GB of RAM.

At the event, Apple also offered a first look at Final Cut Pro X 10.4, which will launch later this year and include new color tools, support for the HEVC video format, and more.

New York City Subway Entrance Turned Into Fake Apple Store With Line for iPhone X
Comedy collective Improv Everywhere last month pulled a stunt to turn a New York City subway entrance into a fake Apple Store. The group came together to play the parts of store employees and customers waiting in line for the iPhone X while trying to convince passersby there was a new Apple Store selling the iPhone X. The prank was successful, as a reddit thread posted at the time described an apparent Apple event where the company was offering early access to the iPhone X.

Apple's Upcoming AirPower Wireless Charging Mat Could Cost Around $199 in the United States
At its September iPhone event, Apple introduced its AirPower wireless charging mat that will be able to charge up to three devices simultaneously, including an iPhone, and Apple Watch, and AirPods. At the time, Apple did not reveal a price for AirPower and said only that it will be launching in 2018. According to a new listing on a Polish reseller's site, however, it looks like pricing could come in at around $199. And that doesn't even include the rumored $69 price for a new AirPower-compatible charging case for your AirPods if you already have the earphones.
