Apple Says HomePod is Delayed Until Early 2018
default.jpg Unveiled at WWDC in June, Apple's HomePod smart speaker was supposed to launch in December, but the company announced late last week that it is delaying the launch until "early 2018," saying "we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers."

The exact reasons for the delay are unknown, but Bloomberg took a look at the history of the HomePod's development, outlining how the speaker project was canceled and revived several times over the past five years and how Apple was "blindsided" by the Amazon Echo when it debuted in 2014. Apple's intent has been to position the HomePod as a high-quality speaker with Siri serving primarily as the control interface for it, while the Echo's core functionality is its much more expansive Alexa voice assistant capabilities.

iMac Pro Appears to Include A10 Fusion Chip for Always-On 'Hey Siri'
default.jpgBased on examination of some of Apple's operating system code, it appears that the upcoming iMac Pro will include a full A10 Fusion chip running alongside Intel Xeon processors. The move builds upon the inclusion of a ARM-based "T1" chip in the MacBook Pro to drive the Touch Bar and Touch ID, and it appears the A10 in the iMac Pro will handle even more security and boot-related functions. In addition, it looks like it will handle "Hey Siri" functionality that could potentially be active even when the iMac Pro is turned off.

Additional digging has revealed the possibility of always-on mobile connectivity that could provide a "Find My Mac" functionality for theft protection, although it's difficult to tell exactly what the code is referring to.
