New 9.7-Inch iPad, Red iPhone 7, New Apple Watch Bands, 'Clips' iOS App - MacRumors

As our sources predicted last week, Apple this week announced several product updates, led by a new low-cost 9.7-inch iPad. Known simply as "iPad," the new tablet goes on sale this Friday starting at $329 for a 32 GB model, with prices increasing for a storage bump to 128 GB and/or support for cellular connectivity. Be sure to check out our comparison of how the new iPad stacks up against the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro and the previous iPad Air 2. If you don't need all of the features of the iPad Pro, this new iPad looks to be a great buy.

In other iPad news, Apple didn't update the iPad mini 4 but it did discontinue the low-end 32 GB models and slide the 128 GB models down to the previous 32 GB price points. It means the iPad mini is now available only with a substantial 128 GB of storage starting at $399. Apple also finally discontinued the iPad mini 2, which it had kept in the lineup for several years as an ultra low-cost option.

Apple made a number of other announcements this week, which we'll cover below, but you can also check out our recap post with links to all of our coverage and a video overview of everything Apple announced in under three minutes.

Apple Responds to Hack Threats, Says There Were No iCloud or Apple ID Breaches
Earlier this week, a group of hackers claimed to have access to hundreds of millions of iCloud accounts, threatening to wipe their owners' iPhones unless Apple met ransom demands of somewhere between $75,000 and $150,000.

While there is no proof that the hackers' claims are legitimate, Apple has responded, stating that there has been no breach of its iCloud or Apple ID systems. It's possible some accounts could have been compromised in breaches of other services where users reused login credentials, so it's always a good idea to make sure you have strong, unique passwords on all of your accounts.
