Back in 2015, Apple responded to a groundswell of "Staingate" complaints regarding the anti-reflective coating wearing off of MacBook Pro displays by launching a free repair program to assist affected customers. The program was originally set to expire in October 2016 for those whose machines were more than three years old, but
MacRumors recently learned that
Apple has extended that deadline by one year to October 16, 2017.
In other repair news, Apple has informed its service provider partners that third-party replacement of an iPhone's display
no longer automatically voids the warranty on the entire device. Apple had previously required that display replacements be done by authorized Apple service providers to maintain warranty coverage. Apple will still decline warranty coverage for issues related to or caused by third-party display repairs, but as long as any problems you experience are unrelated to the display, you should be fine.
