September 7 Event for iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2, New Macs in October?, New iPads in 2017 - MacRumors

Apple this week invited members of the media to an event next Wednesday, September 7 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, teasing with a simple tagline of "See you on the 7th," perhaps a nod to the unveiling of the iPhone 7.

The iPhone 7 will undoubtedly be the highlight of next Wednesday's event, and we're continuing to hear tidbits of information including a possible box label for a 256 GB iPhone 7 Plus with Lightning EarPods, a potential fifth "gloss black" color option, and the same shortage rumors we hear every year. Apple also appears to be getting ready to help store all of those new photos and videos you'll take with the iPhone 7, launching a new 2 TB iCloud tier.

In addition to the iPhone 7, we're also likely to see the Apple Watch 2 at next week's event. It's rumored to have new GPS and fitness tracking functions and a leak last week revealed the 42mm model may have a 35 percent larger battery. A parts firm has also shared hands-on video and photos of the larger battery, a thinner display with new chips included on it, and a redesigned Force Touch sensor layer. We're also apparently going to see some new Beats headphones and perhaps some Apple-branded "AirPods" wireless earphones.

Apple to Release New MacBook Pro and Air as Early as October, AMD Graphics iMacs and 5K Display With LG Also in Works
We're still waiting for Apple to update nearly the entire Mac lineup, and it now looks like we could get a nice set of upgrades as soon as October, headlined by the rumored redesigned MacBook Pro with a thinner profile and an OLED "Dynamic Function Row" above the keyboard.

Apple reportedly also has updated MacBook Air models with USB-C ports coming soon, while the iMac is also in line for a bump with AMD graphics available on higher-end models. Apple is also said to be partnering with LG to develop a new 5K display, but timing and details on that remain unclear.

In other Mac news, Intel has announced its first low-power mobile chips from its "Kaby Lake" family, which would be appropriate for the MacBook and MacBook Air, although the MacBook isn't yet due for an update and Apple will probably use Skylake chips for the imminent MacBook Air update before moving to Kaby Lake later. Meanwhile, new HDMI over USB-C standards may help simplify display connectivity in future Macs.

New iPad Pro With Faster Display and Wider Support for Apple Pencil to Launch Next Year
Apple isn't expected to update its iPad lineup again before the end of the year, but the company seems to have some improvements in store for 2017. It's not clear whether Apple will aim to introduce the new features early in the year as part of an iOS 10.x update or hold them until iOS 11 later in the year.
