Pro Display XDR Hands-On, Tips for Your Holiday Apple Gifts, Apple's Secret Satellite Team – MacRumors

Just a few days after going hands-on with the new Mac Pro, we took a look at Apple's new Pro Display XDR, a gorgeous 6K display that costs a whopping $4999. And if you want a stand for the display, that's an extra $999.

In our early testing, we appreciated the high brightness and excellent color accuracy, and it carries Apple's traditional clean design aesthetic with the rear of the display covered in the same lattice pattern seen on the new Mac Pro for ventilation.

As you might expect for $999, the stand is also beautiful and functional, attaching to the display with some incredibly strong magnets while offering great stability and the ability to smoothly shift to portrait orientation.

At $6000 for the display and stand, this obviously isn't a setup for mainstream users, but for video professionals who have traditionally used reference monitors costing tens of thousands of dollars, Apple's new display might actually be a bargain.

The program has covered machines for four years from the date of first sale, but the company recently updated its internal documentation to note that 2014 and earlier MacBook Pro models are no longer eligible for covered repairs. While most such units are now past their four-year coverage periods anyway, there are undoubtedly some users who purchased these models on clearance and would otherwise have been covered for a bit longer.

Report: Apple Has 'Secret Team' Working on Satellites to Beam Data Directly to iPhones
default.jpg Apple has reportedly put together a team of satellite, antenna, and aerospace engineers to develop technology to beam data directly to iPhones, according to Bloomberg.

Full details on Apple's plans aren't clear, but the company could be looking to bypass traditional carriers, link phones in novel ways, or provide new location-based services.

Apple's team of about a dozen engineers is reportedly looking to have its work deployed within five years.

AirPods Pro Offer 'Close to Seamless' Audio Experience Thanks to Improved Bluetooth Latency
default.jpg Apple's AirPods Pro have been well-regarded for their sound quality and noise cancelation, and a new study shows that the experience is also enhanced by improved Bluetooth latency.

Latency refers to the time between when a sound is triggered on a device and when it is heard in the earphones, and software developer and composer Stephen Coyle has found that the AirPods Pro score quite well in this regard with a delay of under 150 milliseconds, offering a "close to seamless" audio experience.
