Apple's March Media Event: Apple TV+, Apple News+, Apple Card, Apple Arcade, and More - MacRumors

Apple held its first media event of the year on March 25 at Steve Jobs Theater. The keynote was unique in that it focused entirely on the introduction of new Apple services, including Apple TV+ for original video content, Apple News+ for magazines and newspapers, Apple Arcade for premium games, and a new credit card aptly named Apple Card.

Apple Announces Original TV Streaming Service 'Apple TV+'
default.jpgApple TV+ is Apple's upcoming streaming video platform that will compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. The service will be accessible through Apple's revamped TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and select smart TVs. Pricing and availability will be announced in the fall, but check out our overview of everything we know so far.

Hollywood actors, directors, and producers ranging from Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams to Jennifer Aniston and Oprah took the stage towards the end of Apple's event to preview some of the original TV shows and movies coming to Apple TV+, but trailers were noticeably absent and many questions remain unanswered.

Apple's TV app is also getting a new Channels feature that will allow users to subscribe to and pay for only networks they want, like HBO, Showtime, and Starz. The feature is currently in beta and officially launches on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV in May and on the Mac in the fall.

'Apple Card' Credit Card Announced With Daily Rewards, Simplified Statements, and No Fees
default.jpg Apple has introduced a new credit card in partnership with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard. It will be available in the United States this summer, and we've put together a guide outlining details on the card.

Apple Card is built into the Wallet app on iPhone, allowing customers to sign up within minutes and begin using the card with Apple Pay in stores, in apps, and online, subject to a credit score check.

Apple Card has no fees whatsoever, offers 1% to 3% cash back paid out on a daily basis, and features color-coded spending summaries in the Wallet app.

Apple Announces Apple News+ Subscription Service With Access to Over 300 Publications for $9.99 Per Month

The service, based on Apple's acquisition of Texture last year, is built into the Apple News app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple News continues to offer access to free content from several publications, including MacRumors.

Apple Announces 'Apple Arcade' Cross-Platform Subscription Games Service With Access to Over 100 Titles
default.jpgApple Arcade is a new subscription-based service that will offer unlimited access to hundreds of new and exclusive games for a monthly fee. These will be premium, full-featured titles with no in-app purchases necessary along the lines of Monumental Valley.  

Apple Arcade will launch in fall 2019 in more than 150 countries, with a dedicated tab on the App Store on iPhone and iPad in addition to Mac and Apple TV support. Pricing and other details have yet to be revealed, but we'll keep updating our overview guide as we learn more.

Apple Releases iOS 12.2 With Apple News+ Service, New Animoji, HomeKit and AirPlay 2 Support for TVs, Safari Changes and More
iOSdefault.jpg 12.2 was publicly released just after Apple's event on Monday, complete with support for Apple News+ in both the United States and Canada, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on select smart TVs, a new "5G E" indicator for AT&T users, and several other changes.

macOS Mojave 10.14.4 was also released on Monday with Apple News+ support, automatic dark mode themes in Safari, and more, followed by watchOS 5.2 on Wednesday with ECG app availability expanded to Europe and Hong Kong on Apple Watch Series 4. Rounding off the software releases was a minor tvOS 12.2 update.

Hands-On With Apple's New Second-Generation AirPods
default.jpgLast week, Apple released new AirPods with an H1 chip that powers "Hey Siri" support and allows for up to 50 percent longer talk time per charge. Apple also introduced an optional wireless charging case.

We picked up a set of AirPods 2 to see how they compare to the original AirPods in our hands-on video. The second-generation AirPods are priced at $159 with a standard case and at $199 with a wireless charging case. Still no AirPower, sadly, but even more evidence points towards an upcoming release.
