TIME this week released its
list of the 50 most influential gadgets of all time, and the iPhone topped the list for its impact on information consumption, the rise of mobile apps, and hardware design. The Macintosh at #3 and the iPod at #9 also made the top 10, while the iPad at #25 and original iBook at #38 gave Apple a full 10 percent of the list.
In other iPhone news, Apple
lost a trademark battle in China that will allow a leather accessory manufacturer to continue using the "iPhone" name on its products (although Apple is appealing the decision to the Supreme Court in China).
Privacy rights were also in the news again after it was revealed that a court earlier this year issued a warrant
requiring a suspect to provide her fingerprint to unlock a Touch ID-protected iPhone. Finally, Apple said it would assist in
analyzing a badly damaged iPhone used by two Florida teenagers who were lost at sea last year, with Apple hoping to obtain more information about what might have happened to the pair.
